Polymer Science 1 & 2 classes were treated to guest speaker, Ellie Slay, a former PS student and BHS graduate. Ellie is currently a junior at MC majoring in biology with a pre-admittance to med school through the MS Rural Physicians Scholarship Program. She talked to students about what they can be doing right now to prepare them for the challenges of college life, including taking challenging courses, participating in teams and organizations, and investigating possible careers through shadowing. Ellie expressed how important it is to become self-aware of learning styles and develop good study habits now to be ready for the rigors of college coursework. She stressed the importance of getting involved in volunteer efforts, clubs, leadership roles, etc., in order to have opportunities to develop important soft skills, like effective communications. Ellie reflected on her own journey from BHS to MC and how vital being involved and developing mentor relationships are to achieving goals.
